History and Process
On April 22, 2016, former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe signed an executive order to restore the rights of 206,000 ex-felons in Virginia who have completed their terms of incarceration and any period of supervised release (probation/parole). This executive order applies to all felony convictions.
This process will restore your rights and enable you to do the following:
-
Vote
-
Become a Public Notary
-
Serve on a jury
-
Run for public office
Going forward, Virginia governors are required to issue monthly orders restoring rights to persons who have completed the terms of their incarceration and supervised release.
